The Positions

Fire Chief

Felton Fire is moving from an all-volunteer model to a combination fire service, and the next Chief will lead that transition. This is a working chief's position — you will manage the organization for a five-member elected Board, and take command on the fire ground.

Within response distance of the Felton station within six months of hire

Minimum Qualifications

  • Company Officer certification — CSFM, ProBoard Officer 2, or NFA Officer 2
  • High school graduate or equivalency; Associate's degree or higher preferred
  • Fifteen years in the fire service, including five at Captain or above
First round of review begins October 1, 2026. Applications received by September 30 will be included in the first round. The recruitment remains open until filled.

Fire Captain — Lateral / Open Hire

Captains command engine companies, run station operations, and lead training alongside our volunteers. Lateral and open-hire candidates are both encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years with a government agency in progressively responsible roles, including supervisory experience
  • California Firefighter 1 (CSFM or ProBoard)
  • Company Officer certification and ICS 200
  • Current EMT or PSFA
  • High school diploma or equivalency and a valid California driver's license
